From our President, Rob (leachr.t@bigpond.net.au):
Please read and consider the messages below. Barb and Clinton have said exactly how I feel, that Boorowa was a resounding success.
See you on Wednesday.
From our Musical Director, Clinton (clinton.n.white@gmail.com):
What a lovely occasion was Boorowa. And you all did The Gospel Folk proud! Brian's participation was an extra special bonus and I was very touched by his gesture of handing over his tie to me. A tradition has started! I received this email from Boorowa (I said we'd be keen next year!)
Hello all,
A great concert and a big thank you to everyone for your participation. We hope you keep us in mind for next year.
It was a wonderful afternoon of song. Can Assist will benefit by about $3,500. Congratulations on your performance.
Best regards,
Derrick
A reminder that Geoff Charlton will be taking rehearsal next week. Please come along with your favourite songs and suggestions for repertoire for the term. We've got a gig at Yarralumla Uniting Church's art & craft show at the end of June and I would like to have a mix of new and old in our program (about 30 minutes). You can email your suggestions to me, as well.
One new song is up on the members' page of the website - "Soul of a Butterfly" (Youtube here). I'm working on "Nine Hundred Miles" and should have that ready in the next couple of days (Youtube here.) and "Let Me Fly" (Youtube here) shortly after that. Please have a look at those as we approach rehearsal on 9 May. I also found a version of "Yellow Bird" in a folder Brian gave me. I'll have a look at that one as well, probably with a bit more arranging. Meantime, "Highland Cathedral" continues to make (slow) progress!
Finally, check out the story on the Bulletin Board for a great deal for groups from Canberra choirs attending a matinee performance of The Idea of North, coming soon. The group is four a Capella singers - SATB - and a vocal percussionist. It started in Canberra and now has international status. For some luscious close harmonies and interesting mouth-produced sound effects, they cannot be beaten!
From our Manager, Ted (tedwilliams@tpg.com.au):
Nothing to report on this occasion.
From our Gig Manager, Barbara (barbara.huntley@iinet.net.au):
Well done everyone at the Boorowa concert. There were 65 of us, perhaps a record number of us for a gig. I think we were all moved by Brian’s gesture of handing over his tie to Clinton – a final touch to your welcome to The Gospel Folk, Clinton. There’s no turning back now that you have the uniform.
There was some frustration expressed about the usual lack of seating at this venue and the subsequent difficulty of any sort of organised entry for our choir onto the stage. If we get a return invitation, and I expect we will, we will be sure to explore some solutions with the organisers. It has become such a successful fundraiser which the whole community supports.
On now to our next gig at the Yarralumla Art and Craft fair on 30th June at 1.30pm.
Alchemy Chorus will be joining us for our Wesley concert and Brian and Clinton are working on the repertoire for that.
From our Membership Manager, Sharon (spwhite1204@gmail.com):
Nothing to report on this occasion.
From our Member Support, Wendy (wjl26@rogers.com):
If anyone notices that a choir member has been absent for a couple of weeks, please let me know.
From our Treasurer, Ted (tedwilliams@tpg.com.au):
A reminder that fees are due when we return on 2 May. The term fee is still $25. I’m pleased to report that almost everybody is up to date with their fees.
We received the following correspondence from Canberra Refugee Support about our $400 contribution:

Hello Ted,
This is to confirm receipt of your letter and cheque to Canberra Refugee Support Inc.
What a fantastic tribute to Brian Triglone, and also a reflection of his own generosity towards others.
Thank you again to everyone at Gospel Folk who contributed. The money will be put to very good use to directly support Refugees and asylum-seekers in the ACT region.
Best regards,
Brian Calder

For

members
(Please
send submissions to jjjs@rogers.com)
We need someone to take over the TGF uniforms and supplies. Please consider it, it is an easy job, and Ann Tedder has listed the necessary items and where to get them. If interested please speak with Ann as soon as possible.
Ladies, have you got your ‘shoulder tabs’ on your blouse? They are for holding your scarf on your shoulders. Joan Purkiss (Alto) will do it for you, her phone number is 62872110, or you can just bring your blouse for her to the choir meeting on a Wednesday.
Please see the attached flyer about In2Deep’s new CD.
The Idea of North will be performing at The Street Theatre on Saturday 19th May. Kai Kitamura, arguably the best jazz vocal percussionist in the world, has now become a permanent member of the group and will be with them at their performances at the Street. On this occasion, he will also provide a short solo spot which will demonstrate more of the range of his world-renowned skills.
There will be two performances, a matinee at 4pm and an evening show which is virtually sold out.
In response to a request from a Canberra chorister, a special offer has been arranged for members of Canberra Choirs to the Matinee. The offer is only available to members of Canberra Choirs (friends and relatives of choir members are included).
· Date: Saturday 19th May
· Time: 4pm - Matinee
· A $15 reduction from the standard fee of $45.00 for groups of 10 or more.
· All bookings on this offer to be made through the Box Office on 6247 1223 or in person at the theatre (not available on the web). Box Office hours are 10am to 3pm - Monday to Friday.
NB: There is always a standard discount for groups - for 6 people or more - a reduction of $5 from the standard adult fee of $45.00.
We hope that this very special offer will encourage local choirs to come together as a group to enjoy this world class performance by a group which began its life more than twenty years ago with four young students from the Canberra School of Music!
