The Gospel Folk, Canberra
Make 2022 your brightest year yet – come and sing with The Gospel Folk. We are actively recruiting new members. No auditions. Read more about joining here.
We’re a non-auditioned choir of men and women, based in Canberra, Australia. We’re a very friendly group of singers who have fun at practices, social events and performances.
Our main aim is to sing well enough to perform in public. This means we commit to getting to rehearsals regularly, practising our parts and participating at our public performances.
We sing a varied repertoire of gospel, folk, African and other songs, usually in four-part harmony, (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Our new songs this term are Hallelujah, Deep River, Bring Down That Chariot, Peace Love and Happiness, and a wonderful Australian Medley composed by David Lawrence.

We perform at a range of gigs, principally around the ACT. In 2019 we sang at the Festival of Voices, Yarralumla Art & Craft Fair, a Wesley lunchtime concert, and our highly popular Carols Under the Stars. We also performed at fund-raising concerts with other choirs including Together in Faith and Song, and Songs of Hope in Boorowa, as well as singing at The Canberra Hospital and several nursing homes and retirement villages.
Members benefits include an annual workshop with singing coaching.
We are performing at Kangara Waters Community Centre on Friday 29 July at 10.30 am
We will be singing at the annual Yarralumla Uniting Church Arts and Crafts Fair later this year.
We are already planning our very popular Carols Under the Stars which we perform at the Pearce Shops annually.
Our weekly practice takes place on Wednesday evenings at St Peter’s Church Hall, 1 Watling Place, Weston, from 7.30 to 9.30 pm.
Choir terms follow school terms in the ACT.
We follow COVID Safe rules for all choir activities
