The Gospel Folk, Canberra
Make 2020 your brightest year yet – come and sing with The Gospel Folk. We are actively recruiting new members. No auditions. Read more about joining here.
We’re a non-auditioned choir with a membership of around 60 singers, men and women, based in Canberra, Australia. We’re a very friendly bunch of people who have fun at practices, social events and performances. We welcome anyone who loves singing our repertoire and who supports the aims of the choir.
Our main aim is to sing well enough to perform in public. This means we commit to getting to rehearsals regularly, learning our parts, memorising the words of our songs, and turning up at our public performances.
We sing a varied repertoire of gospel, folk, African and other songs, usually in four-part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Music over the last two years has been arranged by our pianist Mike Dooley and music director Clinton White to suit the voices in the choir. We also sing music arranged by our previous long time choir director, Brian Triglone. To read more about gospel music, visit our About page.
We perform at a range of gigs, principally around the ACT. In 2019 we sang at the Festival of Voices, Yarralumla Art & Craft Fair, a Wesley lunchtime concert, and our highly popular Carols Under the Stars. We also performed at fund-raising concerts with other choirs including Together in Faith and Song gospel music, and Songs of Hope in Boorowa, as well as singing at The Canberra Hospital and several nursing homes and retirement villages.
Members benefits include an annual workshop with singing coaching, with one planned for May 2020.
Our weekly practice is on pause until our lives resume more normally.
Future practice will take place at
