How to Join
Interested in singing with us? Come along to a no-obligation rehearsal! You’ll be warmly welcomed and one of our friendly members will show you the ropes. You don’t need previous singing experience or the ability to read music (although, of course, those do help) and you don’t need to know what ‘part’ you sing. Just turn up and have fun. Read about what to expect at your first rehearsal.
St Peter’s Church Hall, 1 Watling Place, Weston (opposite Cooleman Court, on-site parking.).
Every Wednesday night from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. We take a break over the New Year period and for two weeks each school holidays.
What to bring:
For your first rehearsal, just bring a readiness to enjoy yourself! If you decide to join, we’ll ask you to supply a black folder to hold copies of the music/words that we provide. (Once we’ve learned a song, we sing without reference to books as much as possible.) When you’re ready to perform at a gig, you’ll also need to buy a uniform (estimated cost $50).
Your first couple of rehearsals are absolutely no obligation, no charge. After that, we ask that you commit to becoming a member. You do not have to audition to join.
Our repertoire includes songs from various musical genres and styles – folk, African, popular, classical – but most of all we enjoy singing gospel songs. Here’s a brief account of where gospel music comes from and why it’s so much fun to sing.If you decide to join, membership fees must be paid (payable by term or annually). This covers venue rental, insurance, copyright, music/words and tea/coffee. Fees vary depending on our costs but they are very modest.
